Recently, Jay-Z came out to the public saying he denied performing at the Super Bowl in the past. In Jay and B’s new song, “Apesh*t”, Jay raps: “I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don’t need you. Every night we in the endzone, tell the NFL we in stadiums too.”
What could be the reasoning behind these lyrics? Well apparently Jay-Z wants no part of the NFL after the way the NFL handled the Colin Kaepernick kneeling situation. In the past Jay-Z has criticized the league about this topic of conflict so it isn’t a shock that he would turn down the NFL and use his creativity to spread the word.
To make Jay-Z’s opinion even more clear he features about 11 people taking a knee in the music video, perfectly timed with the lyric stated above. Jay-Z is clearly not shy with showing his true feelings towards the NFL. Back in 2017, Jay commented on the NFL for the first time by giving them a big thumbs-down. The NFL played it safe with a response stating that no decisions were made.
